He Wept for There Were No More Worlds To Conquer by mirana He Wept for There Were No More Worlds To Conquer by mirana

My tribute to the incomparable Alan Rickman and the first role I ever had the pleasure of seeing him in.

He was one of my very favorite actors. When it was announced that they were going to film Harry Potter I remember hanging out on a forum, fantasy casting our picks with the group. I immediately jumped at Alan Rickman as the *perfect* Snape, reminding everyone how brilliant he’d been in Prince of Thieves. Soon we were all in agreement that it could be no one else…and obviously we were far from alone in that belief!

He is immortal in the works he gave us, and the much talked about kindness and guidance he gave new generations of actors. Even so, I will miss him and I know you all will too.

A quick paint of a previous sketch. Photoshop.

Just finished re-reading the books and don't know what you mean? I said I wasn't the only one who thought he was a good match, but not that he was the only option! :)

well it's subtle I suppose. hard to say why a character does or doesn't sound like a match for rickman. But in general in the books he was described more snively and spineless whereas rickman gave him BALLS.

Mm, I see your argument! My feeling was that Harry/James/Lupin/Sirus's opinions of Snape (as they were the only ones that called him snively, etc. until the last bit where everyone called him coward for the double-double-cross), were filtered through their dislike of him. Harry & James & Co. had different opinions of Snape than Lily, Dumbledore, and the profs (previous to the double-cross), and JK was good about writing the teens with very filtered views of things that were often tested through other characters's conflicting views/opinions.

Since Harry & Co. can't be trusted in an objective view of Snape, but the story repeats and reaffirms Dumbledore as a trusted source of info, it is safe to say (IMO!) that Snape actually being a stronger, ballsy character is likely...especially as a double agent. Being spineless isn't something JK wrote for Snape when in his dealings with Voldemort for example, though she plainly did for Peter Pettigrew and Lucious Malfoy.

Yeah, seriously. Too many celebrities dying suddenly.

...Not that there's any good amount, but you know what I mean.
